In a large mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped red onion, minced garlic, ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, fresh parsley, fresh mint, dried oregano, dried basil, extra virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to thoroughly mix all the ingredients until they are smoothly and well combined. Be careful not to overmix, which can make the meatballs tough.
